Julia L. Johnson Elected to MasTec Board

MIAMI, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MasTec, Inc. (NYSE: MTZ) announced today that Julia L. Johnson has been elected to MasTec's Board of Directors.
Ms. Johnson is the President of NetCommunications, a strategy consulting firm specializing in the communications, energy, and information technology public policy arenas. The firm supports corporate regulatory and business development strategies through the establishment of tactical industry alliances, enhancing government relations, and providing public policy advocacy.
Ms. Johnson is a nationally recognized authority on utility regulation. She served on the Florida Public Service Commission from 1992-1999. She served as Chairperson from 1997-1999. Her responsibilities included the regulation and policy implementation over Florida's $20.8 billion investor-owned utility industry, which includes the intra-state operation of telecommunications, electric, gas, water and wastewater utilities. From 1997-1999 she served as State Chairperson for the Federal/State Joint Board on Universal Service. In that capacity she was responsible for implementing the annual $2.2 billion federal program which provides advanced telecommunications infrastructure to the nation's schools and libraries.
In 1999, Governor Bush appointed Ms. Johnson to chair Florida's Information Service Technology Development Task Force where she advised the Governor on information technology policy and related legislative issues. Governor Bush also recently appointed Ms. Johnson to the Florida Board of Education. In that capacity, Ms. Johnson is responsible for guiding the development of advanced communications networks and education technology throughout Florida's K-20 educational system.
In 2001, Ms. Johnson was appointed to the Department of Energy/National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioner's Energy Market Access Board. The Board advises key public and industry officials on energy market access and regulatory issues.
In 1999-2000, she also was Chairperson and national spokesperson for NetcompeteNow, an advocacy organization for the deployment of broadband free of government regulation. The organization is comprised of major MSO's, telecommunications companies, satellite television providers and other broadband service providers.
During the span of her career, Ms. Johnson has received numerous awards and honors for her outstanding government, business and community leadership. In April 2001, she received the National Bar Association President's Award for Technology, and in 2000 she was awarded the Alliance for Public Technology Susan Hadden Award. In 1999, she was inducted into the Minority Media and Technology Council Hall of Fame. "It is an honor for MasTec to have Julia serve on our Board of Directors.
